Job posting for a Product Manager position at Crisil requiring 5-7 years of experience.
What You Should Know
- •Every feature idea in banking has to clear compliance - that's a design input, not just a blocker
- •North Star metrics for banking products: activation, CASA balance growth, transaction frequency
- •Build-measure-learn cycles run slower in banking due to compliance sign-off and legacy dependencies
- •Journey mapping for regulated flows - onboarding/KYC is a classic high-drop-off funnel to optimize
- •Stakeholder complexity - product decisions often need risk, compliance and tech sign-off simultaneously
Interview Questions
- 1.How would you prioritize a roadmap when compliance, tech debt and growth features are all competing for the same sprint?
- 2.Walk me through how you'd reduce drop-off in a digital account-opening funnel.
- 3.How is building a banking product different from building a typical consumer app?
- 4.What metrics would define success for a new personal loan product launch?
- 5.How do you work with compliance/risk teams without letting them become a bottleneck?
- 6.How do you manage a team through a target miss without it becoming a blame exercise?
Scenario-Based Questions
- 1.Your onboarding funnel has a 40% drop-off at the KYC/video-verification step. How do you investigate and fix it?
- 2.Risk wants to add 3 extra verification steps that will hurt conversion. How do you negotiate a middle ground?
- 3.You have to sunset a legacy feature that a small but vocal customer segment relies on. How do you manage it?
Interview Tips
- •Show you treat regulatory constraints as a design input, not an obstacle - this is what separates banking PMs from generic PMs.
- •Bring a funnel/metrics framework to every answer; banking product interviews are heavily data-driven.
- •Know the difference between a bank-led digital product and a fintech/NBFC one - the constraints differ a lot.
- •Expect at least one people-management question (a target miss, a difficult team member, cross-functional conflict) - have a real example ready.
